Guide
Feminized or regular.
Only female cannabis plants make the buds you're after.
- Feminized seeds are produced to grow female plants, almost without exception. Every plant can go to harvest. Shops spell it feminized or feminised: it's the same thing.
- Regular seeds are the natural kind: roughly half grow into males, which you'd normally remove.
Who regular seeds are for
They're for you if you want to make your own seeds, or pick one strong female out of many to keep as a mother plant. Then the males are the point.
Comparing prices fairly
A regular seed gives you, on average, half a female plant. So a regular seed at half the price of a feminized one costs about the same per harvest plant. Count per female, not per seed.
In our data
Feminized and regular versions are the same strain, but separate seed products with their own prices. Seed sex and flowering type are separate choices. Seed sex is one of the most reliable labels we show: seed brands and shops state it clearly, and they rarely disagree.
Which one suits your grow
Choose feminized seeds if:
- it's your first grow
- every plant in your small space has to count
- you want buds, not seeds
Choose regular seeds if:
- you want to make your own seeds
- you want to pick one strong female out of many as a mother plant
- you have the room to grow more plants than you'll keep
Compare feminized seeds or regular seeds by price per seed.
